The ’59 Dodge

The ’59 Dodge was originally envisioned by Harry Garrison as a Dodge Power Wagon Clone.   Harry built the Poly 318 engine and the 4×4 drive train in the mid-70’s.  The project was sidelined by the demands of family life and the pickup sat in our shop gathering dust for 20 years.   In 1995 Greg, as a newly commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, finally had the means to finish a project.  He talked Harry into converting the 59 into a 2 wheel drive pickup that could do long distances on road trips.   Harry found the original running gear buried in the dirt down at the old station on Route 66.   The rear axle came out of a 1968 Chrysler New Yorker.  David Cross provided the beautiful paint job at Cross Car Center in Wheeler, TX.  Bob McLeod helped with the assembly and, most importantly, the wiring.   Fortunately, Harry knew where a lot of old trucks of this type were located in the area.  We were lucky to be able to obtain lots of little parts from old trucks that have since been hauled to the scrap metal yard.   The 59 proved to be both a good looking truck and functional and has given us a lot of fond memories ever since.
